Technology
Receiving a root canal no longer has to be a painful, anxiety-producing experience. At Chesapeake Endodontic Center in Annapolis, MD, we use state-of-the-art technology to make endodontic care as comfortable, efficient, and effective as possible. Our board-certified endodontists are specialized in providing the highest quality root canal therapy to restore your smile’s health.
Cutting-Edge Technology for More Effective, Comfortable Treatment
EdgePRO Lasers
Our newest addition of state-of-the-art technology is the EdgePRO Er,Cr,:YSGG laser. The laser energy enhances the removal of infected tissue, biofilm, and smear layer in infected root canals, killing up to 99% of the commonly found bacteria. This advanced technology gives us the ability to obtain previously unreached levels of canal cleaning, debridement, and disinfection.
The “Wand”
Many patients fear and may actually avoid dental treatment because of “the shot.” However, we use an advanced, computerized anesthetic delivery system called “The Wand.” This system controls the rate and flow of the anesthetic, which helps eliminate the discomfort usually associated with dental injections, so you no longer have to fear dental treatment.
Apex Locators
We use electronic apex locators to determine the length of the root canal space when performing endodontic treatment. By utilizing this technology, fewer x-rays are required to determine the root canal length, which allows for more accurate and precise treatment.
Electric Handpieces and Rotary Nickel-Titanium Instruments
Traditional air-driven drills create a loud, shrill noise and produce inconsistent torque. However, we use electric handpieces that are quiet and produce consistent torque, creating a more comfortable experience for the patient. By using flexible metal instruments made of a unique alloy of nickel-titanium, we clean and shape the root canal. We use hand and rotary instruments in combination with liquid antimicrobial agents to eliminate bacteria and tissues from the root canals, providing a more effective treatment.
Ultrasonics
Our sophisticated ultrasonic units are used to remove posts and metal instruments, as well as to search for calcified canals. They also help to prepare the root-end for a retrograde filling when microsurgical treatment is required. The diamond-coated microscopic tips of the ultrasonics vibrate at up to 25,000 cycles per second, which ensures accuracy and quick preparation.
Surgical Microscopes
We use state-of-the-art dental operating microscopes, which enhance magnification and use fiber-optic illumination to aid us in endodontic treatment. These microscopes allow us to visualize the internal anatomy of the root canals, as well as to locate and treat fine calcified canals. Plus, the microscopes produce high-resolution video to document each case.
Digital Radiography
X-rays are essential for successful endodontic treatment. We use an advanced, non-film dental imaging system developed by Kodak and Carestream Technologies. This digital technology reduces radiation exposure by over 80% compared to traditional x-rays. The computerized images are immediately visible on a chairside computer monitor. The images can then be optimized, printed, archived, and sent to the referring dentist. Plus, because no film-processing chemicals are required, digital x-rays are safer for our team and the environment.
Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT)
We utilize CBCT 3-D imaging to better diagnose and treat cases. CBCT technology is similar to medical CAT scans but utilizes a focused beam and limited field of view to provide better quality imaging with highly reduced radiation exposure. We are excited to be offering this technology to enhance the care we offer our patients.
